Milano

Buona serra from Milan!
We got breakfast to start our day at our hotel in Santorini. I only drink about half of my cappuccino (that was a bad move) but the food was good again! We got checked out and headed to the bus station to catch the bus to the airport. We got to the bus stop a bit early so we had to wait around. It’s very chaotic, with big buses and lots of people. Nobody knows what’s going on until the drivers shout out your destination. We were worried that we wouldn’t get to a seat, however once we got on the bus there was plenty of space. We had to load our luggage under the bus under the supervision of the driver the lady in front of us loaded hers incorrectly (loading horizontally instead of vertically) and got a stern talking to. I believe the driver said something along the lines of “Open your eyes!” We arrived at the airport with plenty of time, got through the check in process quickly, and boarded our plane without problems. The flight was quite scenic as it left!

Once we landed in Milan, we took the bus and metro to the Duomo station where we’re staying close by. We checked in at our hotel and headed straight to the Lavazza premier flagship store, where we ordered a ham (coppa) and cheese (straciatella) sandwich and mozzarella with tomatoes. Photos not attached because we were hungry!

Then we went to the Duomo and had a ticket scare. We had thought the elevator would be a good idea to save our legs, but unfortunately, they were sold out tonight for two people to go up on the elevator. We managed to get entry at 5 o’clock (on the stairs), but entered a little bit early without any questions. On the terrace with admired the views of Milan and the intricate detailing of the cathedral. We went inside the cathedral and to the Duomo Museum since both were also included on our ticket.

Next, we went to the Galleria Vittorio Emmanuelle, which is the famous shopping mall.

We then walked a little bit around downtown Milan, noticing many businessmen in suits riding on motorcycles. We walked by the Palazzo Brera and the Brera district, stopping briefly in the Palazzo, as it was free to enter.

At this point we were hungry so we went to dinner. We tried going into one spot, but it looked very touristy and busy. Instead, we went to a place called “Obicà Mozzarella Bar - Duomo,” near the Duomo with a view. We got two glasses of white wine from San Gimagnano, Italy (where my family and I visited in 2014), prosciutto and melon, and a tomato pasta that the waiter helped us pronounce (it was simple but delicious!).

After that we got some gelato then headed to a local grocery store to pick up some water bottles for the evening. As it was a long travel day for us, we headed back to the hotel with plans to explore a little bit more in the morning before our train!
