Arrival in Athens!

Hello from Athens, Greece! Ray and I arrived on Saturday and enjoyed our first full day of our European adventure in Athens.

Our flight was a bit of an adventure, but I'm happy to report we made it safely. We arrived at the airport in Denver with plenty of time to eat some dinner and board our flight to Munich. Once we were on the plane, however, we were told there were some customer service issues to be resolved and we were delayed by about an hour. The plane started heading towards the runway but turned around before we had a chance to depart due to some computer issues that would have caused issues once we arrived to Germany and some (still existing) customer service issues. Unfortunately, we had to deplane and re-board so the airline could resolve their issue. We departed about 4 hours after our originally scheduled time. Ray and I were grateful we'd booked a 5 hour layover (even though it would've been long had we been on time) in case of weird things like this happening.

Once in Munich, we sped through customs and grabbed some food before our flight to Athens. Our second flight was quick and easy but also a bit delayed, so we arrived in Athens around 11:30 PM. My first impression was that the airport was a bit chaotic - lots of people moving around, busy waiting area, and a bit of a mess to buy our tourist cards to use for the bus. Thankfully, Ray knew where to go once we landed and the process was pretty quick. We hopped on the X95 bus to the city center and checked in at our hotel a little after midnight.

We were a little hungry so we went to McDonalds and promised ourselves we wouldn't eat there again the rest of the trip… though that didn't stay 100% true for long as we figured out they're placed in convenient locations and the bottled water is cheap there! 

We briefly went to check out the view from the hotel and were quite impressed!

Then, we went to bed to rest up for a big first day!
