Shopping and Parc Güell
Today was our last full day in Barcelona, so we decided to take it easy before we head off to Sevilla. We started our mornings with some coffee while attempting to figure out our washer/dryer. (We were successful!) We then headed to Passeig de Gracia, which is one of Barcelona's main boulevards with a variety of stores, as well as Gaudi-designed Casa Battló. Just because they're here, we stopped into Louis Vuitton and Gucci - but didn't buy anything. ("Whew!" -bank accounts)
We then went to a nearby market called Mercat de la Concepció, where we made our own lunches. For us, this meant buying some bread, ham, cheese, tomatoes, sushi (I wanted to try it because the sea's so close... it didn't disappoint), and a variety of fresh fruits.
Because the last few days have been really busy, we took a long siesta before heading back out for our night adventure. We got an early dinner at La Cervesería Catalana, located on Carrer de Mallorca (the same place we ate the first night). We "mixed it up" by trying a couple new tapas, including Gambas Ajillos, Carneos Ovo (something like that - it was basically potatoes with an egg cracked on top and was really good), and a hot dog.
We'd heard about Barcelona's really great churros and wanted to try them for ourselves before we left. So, we stopped by Xurreria Trebol on our way to the Park. (We caught a taxi from there.) If you're in Barcelona, make sure to get the chocolate-covered churros - they're delicious!
Finally, we went up to Parc Güell to see the famous bench, chameleon, columns, and Gaudi designs. Pro tip: get tickets to the park if you can! You can only get into the "Monumental Zone" by paying, despite what the Cheetah Girls may have led you to believe, but checking it out is well worth it.
My (Amy's) Barcelona Favorites:
Restaurant - Restaurant Arcano
Tapas Bar - Cerveseria Catalana
Sangria - Jamón y Vino (by La Sagrada Familia)
Monument - Sagrada Familia
Dessert - Chocolate-Covered Churros
Painting - So far... Picasso's more famous black-and-white rendition of Las Meninas
Architecture - Would it be wrong to say Gaudi? ;)
Hasta pronto, Barcelona!
