Beach Day on the Med
Hello from Santorini!
We woke up this morning and realized the power was out in our hotel! After getting organized we went to the reception to figure out what was going on. Thankfully they were aware of the situation (the power was out from 7-8 AM) and knew the expected resolution time… we would’ve missed it completely if we had woken up 30 minutes later! After eating some breakfast at the hotel, we got ready for our day.
We decided on a beach day and caught a morning bus to Perissa, about 20 minutes from Fira. It was standing room only! We had a short walk to the beach from there. Once we arrived, we surveyed all of the beach chair situations and managed to get two chairs for free instead of the 20 euros initially suggested. We hung out there for several hours, enjoying the black sand and getting in the water several times. Once it came time to eat, we ordered two baguettes (one turkey, one traditional), fries, a pineapple juice, and a lemonade. We had a minor misunderstanding since we had asked for fries on the side but instead got fries inside. Actually quite tasty! The beach was HOT and we burned our feet a bit, but the views were very nice and it wasn’t so hot after swimming!
After the beach we briefly went shopping and awe the church from the outside in Perissa. We took the bus back, spent a little time at our hotel pool, then spent a bit of time relaxing before heading out for dinner.
We decided to stay in Fira tonight and went to Noussa for dinner. Our food was good - we ordered chicken souvlaki and tomato balls (kind of like a falafel). After realizing we were still a little hungry, we flagged the waiter down to order Fava (hummus-like texture made out of local beans) and a baklava. We watched our last Santorini sunset of the trip from a spot along the “main drag” in Fira.
We are onto our next stop in the morning but have really enjoyed this stopover in Santorini! I hope to come back here someday.
