Barcelona Weekend!

Hi!

On Friday morning, my boyfriend Ray arrived in Barcelona! After a few months apart, I was super excited to show him around in the city that I've spent my semester in! Here's how we spent the first weekend :) Side note - writing this post I realized just how much we squeezed into three days!
On Friday, I woke up and went to the airport to meet Ray after the long flight. A short break at the hotel was needed, but we later started with the Gothic Quarter. Along the way, we passed the Kiss Mural, Barcelona Cathedral, the Augustus Temple, the Bishop's Bridge, and the Royal Palace. This area of Barcelona is very special so showing it off was lots of fun!
We then went over to the olympic port to eat lunch at El Tinglado De Moncho's. My host mom recommended the place, and it turned out to be a good spot right by the port. We got some paella! After this, we sat on the beach for a while relaxing and enjoying the sun.
Since the Born neighborhood is closeby, we went to Santa Maria del Mar (free after 5 PM) and walked through a few other side streets. We grabbed a snack a little later at El Flako!
We went back out after a break to grab a drink with my friends Kaitlyn and Allie at Ayre Hotel Rosellon. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed on the roof on Friday night (it's only for guests) - so we went to H10 Casa Mimosa instead. It had a rooftop terrace with a view of Casa Mila! Dinner was at Yuanman, where we got some fried rice.
On Saturday morning, we went up to Tibidabo Amusement Park. Google Maps led us a bit astray on the way up but there is a bus that goes directly to the "panoramic zone" where most tourists go. (Train to "Peu del Funicular" --> Cable car "Vallvidrera Superior" --> Bus 111) We bought the "Tourist Ticket" which included the Giradabo (big red rollercoaster that has a good view of the city), Ferris Wheel, Carousel, and the Airplane. After grabbing some lunch (surprisingly good) at the amusement park, we went to the Sagrat Cor Church.
We took a little break, then went back out to walk through Las Ramblas. We started at Placa Catalunya and ended at the Columbus monument, passing by the important areas along the way. I had been wanting to go to the Drassanes (Shipyards) - the Maritime Museum, so we walked through it! I really enjoyed learning some more about the history and Barcelona's sea history... but some of the exhibits were a little strange.
For dinner, we went to Txpela on Passeig de Gracia for some new tapas! We then took the metro up to Montjuic to watch the Magic Fountain (during the spring season available on the weekends at 8 PM). We stood right by the fountain, but didn't realize that we were in the splash zone... whoops! We grabbed a drink after at CocoVail Beer Hall where we watched an insane game of Jenga!
On Sunday morning, we took the train down to Sitges for a relaxing beach day. It was a beautiful and warm day. Lunch was at Ragazzi Ristorante Pizzeria along the beach, and we stopped by Dino Gelato for a nice sorbet snack.
We got back to Barcelona in time for sunset, so we went to Ciutadella Park and the Arc de Triomf. Then, we took the metro back up for dinner with my host mom.
And that was the first weekend of the trip! More to come throughout the week!
