French Riviera Weekend: Monaco & Eze

Bonjour!

Our weekend in Nice continued with a second day of trips, this time to Monaco and Èze!

We started our day with Monaco, the second smallest country in the world! Thank you to my high school business teacher Mr. Berggren for sharing this article about the principality with me as well. After taking the train from Nice (about 30 minutes), we started at the Casino. The front was all covered up from how we tried to go, so we walked to the back to get some good views of the sculpture garden, yachts, and the built-up city of Monte Carlo.
We enjoyed our time hanging out by the casino pretending to be one of the lucky residents and (vaguely) recreating this Monte Carlo photo.
We then walked down the hill towards the port. I loved seeing all of the boats and taking a moment to *pretend* like I could be a member of the yacht club!
From there, we took a bus to the Prince's Palace at the top of the hill. The ride was beautiful! We walked along the colorful streets, then admired the palace for a few moments.
We took the bus back to the Monaco train station after so we could head back to France for lunch and the second part of our day trip!

We got to Eze right in time for lunch (or so we thought), around 1:30. What we didn't realize was that the bus that goes from the bottom of the hill, where the train station is, to the main village isn't super reliable. We waited for a while before trying to call an Uber after it didn't show up as scheduled the first time, but that didn't go anywhere. After fully committing to sticking around and making it to the top (rather than going to Nice), we luckily caught the next bus up to the top. Lunch was at a cute little place called Le Pinocchio. Good pizza for a good price!
After lunch, we went to the Exotic Garden. On our way up, we passed through the castle and by many shops and restaurants. The Garden was amazing - lots of beautiful succulents and nice views of the coastline and church. We also had interesting (cloudy) weather which made for some dramatic photos!
We caught the bus down shortly after to make sure we made it back to Nice in time for dinner (since we took the train back).

After a break at the hotel, we went out to dinner at Brasserie L'F, an Italian restaurant right by the Nice flower market. We sat on the famous blue chairs on the Promenade des Anglais for a while before heading back to the hotel for the night.
And, of course, it's always a good idea to say "Oui" to gelato! (Especially when it's Monte Carlo flavor!)
Here's to a successful and memorable day trip!

Amy
