French Riviera Weekend: Nice

Bonjour!

On Sunday, we enjoyed the day in Nice. This is the last of the three posts about our weekend in the French Riviera! I want to mention that this article was super helpful in planning the day trips and things we did, though we changed the order a little bit and had our own adventures!

We started our Sunday by taking the tram towards the center of town. Though we had plans to go all the way to the Cours Saleya first, there was a Paris-Nice bike race taking place! So, we got off at Place Massena and walked from there. The market was so much fun. I enjoyed looking at the variety of colorful flowers, fruits, and artwork throughout. Anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge dog lover, so I was especially intrigued by the bulldog taking a little snooze at the market!
After this, we walked along the Promenade des Anglais toward Le Negresco Hotel, passing by La Grande Chaise Bleue by Sab, Masséna Museum, and the coast. We backtracked a little to get to the Jardin Albert 1er. We hung out there for a little and even climbed a tree!
Once we arrived back at the Place Massena, we took a short shopping break at the nearby shops. Then, it was lunchtime! We went to a burger place called Big Ferdinand, which had good meal deals and very good fries!
We continued walking towards Place Garibaldi after and went to the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum! (free for students)
From there, we tried to catch a bus (that didn't come) to the Matisse Museum before it closed. Since we didn't want to wait too long, we decided instead to go up Nice Castle Hill for a good view. Unfortunately, my phone didn't pull up the correct directions right away so we ended up walking along the port before finding the right path. Allie pulled up the right location and we were able to go up without too many issues from there. We got a great view of Nice and watched the sunset from the castle on the hill, then walked down for dinner!
Our favorite part of town for dinner was the old town, so we went back there to eat at Brasserie Tobacco Lou Pastrouil, but we did have some communication issues with our waiter... The croque monsieur was very good though!
We still had some time before we had to head to the airport, so we went back towards our hotel. I made a sweet fluffy friend on the tram! Then, we went over to the St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral - it's the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Western Europe!
We caught the bus to the airport after all of our adventures for a late flight back to Barcelona! This was such a fun, exciting, and picturesque weekend and I'm already hoping to go back someday :)

À plus tard!

Amy
