Eataly 2014: Best and Worst

Now that I am back and have had the entire day to adjust to CO time, I am ready to post the 2014 Eataly Best and Worst Blog. If I don't name a worst, it might just be because all of the experiences/meals/food/whatever the category may be.
  • Meal
    • BEST: La Ciambella, Rome 7/14/14
    • WORST: We ate all "good" meals.. Some were simply better than others.
  • Gelato
    • BEST: Pasticceria - Gelateria Amorini, Lucca 7/7/14
      2ND PLACE: Giolitti, Rome, 7/10-11/14
    • WORST: Gelateria Sofia, Florence (right by Ponte Vecchio!), 7/6/14
  • Experience (by city)
    • Venice
      BEST: Gondola Ride
    • Verona
BEST: Opera in the Colosseum 7/4 (ended on 7/5) - cool setting and show
    • Florence
      BEST: Accademia Museum/David 7/9/14
WORST: Gelato Place.. Don't go there and get ripped off, please!
    • Rome
BEST: Sistine Chapel and seeing Pieta in person 7/12/14
WORST: Seeing the long line for the Vatican Museum (thanks mom!!) 7/12/14
    • Pisa
BEST: Going up the tower and feeling the lean
WORST: Seeing that the lawns were closed (oh well... still did a handstand!)
    • Small Towns
FAVORITE & WHY: Lucca. I loved the personality of the town, found my favorite gelato flavor combinations, and got to ride a tandem bike with dad around the walls.
  • Painting
    • BEST: Michelangelo's Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel and his only remaining canvas work (which we saw at the Uffizi)
School of Athens was Nick and Mom's favorite because we had it all to ourselves.
    • WORST: All of the early religious paintings that depict the exact same thing in near-exact styles. A little variety might be nice.
  • Architecture
    • BEST: All of Bernini's work in Rome. AMAZING!
  • Bathrooms (silly, but it's important)
    • BEST: La Ciambella, Rome 7/14/14 - really nice and really clean.
    • WORST: Galleria Uffizi, Florence 7/8/14
  • Service
    • BEST: La Ciambella, Rome 7/14/14 - our waitress was very funny, spoke English, and was super nice. We enjoyed it a lot!
    • WORST: Gelateria Sofia (again.) - pay inside and a ripoff for prices.
  • Ambiance of a City
    • BEST: The city of Rome. It was a modern, bustling city in the middle of a 2,000+ year old location.. Super cool!
  • Weather
    • BEST: Venice! We only got rain once, but it was short and sweet.
    • WORST: Florence. We got poured on one day to the point that mom ended up negotiating with a street umbrella seller!
  • Hotel
    • BEST: Rome! I had my own little den that I blogged from each night and the apartment was a good size.
Any other categories I'm missing? Comment what you think I should give the best (and/or worst) of the trip. Links to my pictures will be up soon for anyone interested. To see pictures from the trip that have already been posted, go to http://instagram.com/alonzi1.
